Private Renters’ Charter for Tower Hamlets

10th July 2017

Marc Lancaster, Mayor John Biggs, Deputy Mayor Sirajul Islam and representatives fro signatory organizations smiling at the launch of Tower Hamlets Private Renters' Charter On 29 June in Bethnal Green, Tower Hamlets Private Renters’ Charter was officially launched by Mayor John Biggs and Cllr. Sirajul Islam, the Deputy Mayor, also Cabinet Member for Housing. This event was the culmination of at least six months work for Policy Officer, Marc Lancaster.

Back in February, Marc invited Renters’ Rights London to meet withBromley-by-Bow Centre, Island Advice Centre, Praxis, QMUL Legal Advice Service, Shelter, Tower Hamlets Law Centre, and Tower Hamlets CAB. Together, we formed a working group towards the final document.  Our objective was to create a compact overview of the laws governing landlords’ obligations and tenants’ rights when renting from a private landlord or via an agency.

We hope that these few, important facts will become common knowledge among Tower Hamlets renters, to ensure that everyone rents a safe and secure home, on fair terms and without being subjected to illegal discrimination or to unusual fees.
